Real day-in-the-life show centering around the medical profession and the bond between patient and physician. Excellent example of the good PBS brought forth before liberal agendas took the place of science.

Kanoon
A well made, ahead of its time movie, which raises significant questions about the Law and its grounds of making a judgment. Can a person be charged for the same crime twice? The movie starts with this intriguing question and then moves on towards unmasking deeper loop holes in the judiciary system. The story revolves around a plot where a murder is committed but an innocent person is caught due to his untimely presence on the spot. Now should he be hanged only on the basis of some dicey witnesses and can the Judgment be turned over with some forged testimonies, are the points intelligently raised in“Kanoon”. It’s true that the Law does take its decision on the basis of witnesses available and doubts can always be raised on the authenticity of all those testimonies. But that’s the way Law forces work, which can anytime punish an innocent person for a crime not committed. May be that’s the reason, Law is said to be blind and that is the basic theme of this captivating court room drama called “Kanoon” directed by B. R. Chopra. In fact I recall reading an article which mentioned that B. R. Chopra made this movie to prove that Indian Cinema is not only few songs and dances put together. To show the brilliance and talent of our Indian filmmakers and its actors, B. R. Chopra made this song less classic court room drama in the times when songs were treated as an essential ingredient of film-making. The director is well supported by his talented star-cast which includes Ashok Kumar in the lead role as a Judge. And the narration holds you till the climax which has a shocking revelation to make. In few words, “Kanoon” is not a normal Bollywood movie of the Sixties. But it’s an important path breaking attempt, made well ahead of its time, raising notable questions about the Judiciary system of the world, still prevalent in the current times. So, if you want to see a thrilling, court room drama, then go for this All Time Classic in the nostalgic Black & White format. However, I also remember this similar theme being used in two different mediums before and after “Kanoon”. In 1983, Amitabh Bachchan raised the same question standing in the court that “How can you charge a person twice for the same crime”. That was in“Andha Kanoon” also featuring Rajneekant, Hema Malini, Reena Roy, Prem Chopra & Pran. And before the release of “Kanoon” in 1960, there was an episode of “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” T.V. Serial, titled “The Motive” aired in 1958. In that episode too, there are two friends who have a bet on a point that a murder can be committed without being caught, in the similar manner in which Ashok Kumar has a bet with his fellow Judge. The sequence may be inspired but that doesn’t take away any merit from this B. R. Chopra’s worth watching Classic. So just go for it! Directed By B. R. Chopra Starring : Ashok Kumar, Rajendera Kumar, Nanda, Mehmood & Manmohan Krishan | ||

Kunti
Kunti - T V Series
Kunti was young, a sage (Durvasa) told her a "mantra" with which Kunti could summon any god and have a child by him.
Kunti could not believe the mantra, so she tried to use it. The Sun God, Surya, appeared. She asked him to go back, but Surya said he was compelled to fulfill the mantra before returning. Surya magically caused Kunti to bear a child immediately so that she, a princess, would not be subject to questions from the King or his court. Kunti then discarded the child, Karna, in a basket in a river. Karna was later found by a charioteer of Kunti's future brother-in-law.
Later on, Kunti married Prince Pandu of Hastinapur. Pandu had a blind elder brother, Dhritrashtra. When Pandu's father died, Pandu, and not Dhrithrashtra, became King. According to the laws of the time, a blind man could not rule unless he was the only heir to the dead king. Thus Pandu, a younger son, came to the throne. Pandu, as was the custom of the time, took a second wife, Madri.
One day, Pandu, Madri, and Kunti were hunting for sport in a forest. Pandu used a magical arrow intended to kill a stag. Before dying, the man, who was on his way to his wife, cursed Pandu that the latter would die the moment he touched his wife.
Pandu, grief-stricken that he could not have any children, abdicated the throne and left in self-imposed exile. While in the forest, Pandu yearned for the children he could not have. Then, Kunti revealed her secret mantra. She used it thrice, first receiving a son Yudishtira from god Yama, next for Bhima from god Vayu, and third for Arjuna, from god Indra. Kunti revealed the mantra to Madri, who bore two twin sons, Nakula and Sahadeva, from the twin gods the Asvins. The five together are known as "Pandavas".
One day, Pandu could not control himself and touched Madri. Immediately, he burnt to ashes. Madri, feeling herself guilty, immolated herself. Kunti was left to tend for all five sons, whose story forms an integral part of the Mahabharata

Karamchand
Karamchand - T V Series
I’m not sure if Desi Dabba readers feel the same way I do, but the revival of the iconic TV series Karamchand has left me rather cold. In retrospect, it isn’t surprising. Karamchand got most of its cachet from the fact that it was a stylistic series. The stilted camera angles, the extended shots, the informal dialogs and of course, the idiosyncratic title character himself. It was also India’s first indigenous crime drama.
Fast forward several years later and none of these trappings are compelling enough to watch. Which is why reincarnating Karamchand without a major reworking is such a bad idea. So how bad is it?
Let us count the ways.
First, it always confounds me why Karamchand is constantly surrounded by idiots. Ok, perhaps his idiosyncratic way of thinking allows him to see things other don’t. But really? All the time? The stories revolve around how brilliant the detective is. But the stuff he “uncovers†is either simplistic or so plucked from thin air that it either underwhelms you or defies logic.
Second, Karamchand’s ticks just aren’t endearing anymore. And for us to be able to connect with the detective, we’ll need a bit more of a back story. How about throwing a boy in his path that he is forced to adopt? Give that useless character – Kitty – a romance on the side with one of Karamchand’s clients. Something – anything that will distract us from the lame mysteries.
And while we are at it – what’s the deal with Kitty? Give that girl something to do besides circling Pankaj Kapur and receiving Karamchand’s sexist insults with a smile. In the hands of a good writer, she could have an absorbing role to play in the series. And don’t tell me one isn’t around. Hire someone from a saas-bahu serial if need be to help you flesh out that woman.
Finally, those stories need to be sharper. This involves a lot of research about process. There is no point in ripping stories out of the headlines and creating a terrible procedural drama around it. Once you have genuine tension and mystery in the story, those edgy camera angles and extended shots will start working really well. But until then they just look like an unnecessary gimmick.

Kashmakash Zindagi Ki
"The look of the serial will be comparable to yesteryear’s blockbuster ‘Chanakya’," said Wadhwa, whose daily family drama ‘Kashmakash Zindagi Ki’ has completed 300 episodes on Doordarshan.
The script for ‘Sambhav’ has been penned by Pradyot Pandit, who has written more than 16 shows (fiction and non-fiction) for various channels.
Pandit, a dramatics graduate from Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal, said: "It took me more than a year to write the first episode because it needed a lot of research." He said he used the resources from the Archaeological Survey of India and books and documents available for his research.
"Since very little information is available about the ancient civilization, it was not easy to research," said Pandit, who has assisted renowned writers like Anees Bazmee, Sudhanshu Mishra and Anil Choudhury of serials like ‘Kabir’ and ‘Phatichar’.
Pandit says: "The story of ‘Sambhav’ also deals with the Aryan age, which is known to be the oldest civilization of India. Though we have incorporated dramatic elements, the flavour of the story is of that age and is backed by historical evidence."
With the script ready, shooting for the pilot will begin soon, said Wadhwa, adding that he hoped to air the serial by the year-end. Wadhwa has also started a cricket portal, criccontest.com, with live gaming and cricket equipment auction.
On the channel on which ‘Sambhav’ is to be telecast, Wadhwa said, "Talks are on with various satellite channels. Let’s see who gives us the best deal."
The Mohenjodaro civilization was built around 2,600 BC in what is now Sind in Pakistan. The city was one of the early urban settlements in the world, existing at the same time as the civilisations of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia and Greece. Anoop Wadhwa and Ashok Wadha of RAPL are also shortly launching their next venture, ‘Kasak’, a serial on the trials and tribulations of a woman journalist, on the national network of Doordarshan.

Among all these controversies and smiles and tears in SRGMP, one wonders what happened to all those winners in earlier SRGM contests? Where are they? What are they doing? Have they been able to achieve success in their careers. Of course we know about few who have, but there were many others, about who we dont know much about. So what are they doing in life now?
I thought it would be good to follow the careers of the past winners, some of whom have been our favorites.
Here is an article about the first ever winner of SRGM megafinal. Some if us know that she did get a break in Kareeb. But after that she faded away from the glitter and glamour of Indian film music.
But I was happy to come across this article that states that she is doing well for herself.
This is the first article I am posting. I will look for others and keep sharing information with you if you are interested.
In one of the pictures, Shivprasad is seen who I believe is also one of the SRGM winners.

Jai Hanumaan
Jai Hanuman" a mighty mythological, is a combined result of Sanjay Khan’s intense devotion and dedication which gives a new dimension to this genre of serials ever made in this country. The narrative gives an account of the purpose and background of Hanuman ‘s birth.
Out of the fourteen extracts from the churning of the ocean by gods, one was the Vish, the poison which threatened the extinction of the earth.
Lord Shiva drank the vish to save the earth. Being one of the three paramount gods of Hindu mythology, he could bear the brunt of this fatal poison and suffer in the process.
Lord Vishnu, in the line in his performance, to preserve the world, appeared in the form of pretty Mohini to relieve Lord Shiva from his affliction. This divine alliance produced a ball of glow which was transplanted by Pawan Dev, the god of wind, in the womb of Anjana. As a result, she gave birth to the omnipotent Hanuman, the eleventh reincarnation of Lord Shiva.
The serial elaborately depicts Hanuman’s childhood, his mischief-making, his antics, his training in various arts by several gods and his full growth till he joined Lord Rama, Laxman and Sita in their exile and wholeheartedly devoted himself to serve them ever.

'Hari Mirchi Laal Mirchi' Yamini Singh to play the role of Rinku's mother
MUMBAI: The serial 'Hari Mirchi Laal Mirchi', which is being telecast at 9 p.m. every Thursday on Doordarshan's national network and is at the top of viewer ship ratings, has been the focus of discussion all year round. The main reason for this interest is the fact that everyone seems to be enjoying the serial so much that they can't stop themselves from talking about it.
After completing one year of success the serial is once more in the news. For 52 episodes the character of Rinku was being portrayed by Neeru Bajwa but from the 53rd episode Surabhi Tiwari was seen playing Rinku's character. And now from the 57th episode Yamini Singh is being seen in place of Suhita Thate in the role of Rinku's mother.
The change seems natural. As when the daughter changes so should the mother. But this rule doesn't necessarily hold all through the film or television medium and this is why when this change was executed in 'Hari Mirchi Laal Mirchi' various rumours began to flood the market.
Some sources claimed that Suhita Thate has received an offer for a film or another serial due to which she is unable to give time to 'Hari Mirchi Laal Mirchi'. Others felt that the Rakesh Chowdhary the producer director of the serial was fed up of Suhita Thate's conduct and had expelled her from the serial. However when we spoke to Rakesh Chowdhary we realised that the fact was altogether different. Rakesh Chowdhary informed us - "We had no issue with Suhita Thate.
Her commitment to other projects did not affect our schedules. But when for the sake of freshness and other reasons we brought in Surabhi Tiwari to play the role of Rinku we realised within an episode or two that the spark, which should exist between the mother and a daughter, had gone missing. The viewers' responses too made it clear that people were now unable to digest Suchita in the role of Rinku's mother. This is why we had to select another artist to portray the role of Rinku's mother, Yamini Singh is now seen playing the character."
Just like Surabhi Tiwari who plays Rinku's role Yamini Singh too has worked with Rakesh Chowdhary in the past. Viewers have seen Yamini in Rakesh Chowdhary's super-hit serial 'Shikwah'. Yamini is not a newcomer to the world of acting. Back in 1992 she acquired formal acting training in Chandigarh's 'Indian Theatre' before entering into the field. Besides theatre she has been in a huge number of Ad films.
As far as the big screen is concerned her first assignment was with Mita Vashist and Revati in 'Tarpan'. In the film she had played the role of Om Puri's daughter. After this she played the character of 'lovely' in the 'Colgate top ten'. On television she has done a lot of work in serials like 'Bandhan' 'Ghar Ek Mandir' 'Koshish Ek Asha' 'Hum Hai Na Lajawab' 'Shikwah' and many more.
Some while ago the recently released film 'Jai Santoshi Ma' had her as part of its cast. Nowadays besides 'Hari Mirchi Laal Mirchi' she is also seen performing in the serial 'Jab Love Hua' While speaking about taking the place of another artist in portraying the role of Rinku's mother… Yamini Singh says. -"When an artist portrays a character. The character gets associated with the personality, the stature and partially even the mannerisms of the artist. On the set too all other artists establish rapport with the character. There is always a little discomfort at the beginning.
This discomfort is not limited to the new artist but is shared by the entire team. But in a day or two everything returns to a comfort zone. So when I entered right in the middle of 'Hari Mirchi Laal Mirchi' I felt a lot of unease on the first day.
But soon the episode director Rajesh Gupta and all other artists gave me such co-operation that in one day itself I was able to grab all the nuances of the character and then all the discomfort and difficulties vanished. Actually I feel proud to be associated with 'Hari Mirchi Laal Mirchi', because I am once again getting a chance to work with Rakesh Chowdhary a maker who I admire tremendously. Rakeshji has given the world of television 'Chunauti' 'Mujrim Haazir' and many more memorable serials. No other maker has been able to give serials of such excellence.
